Startup Weekend

Background

I was the marketing team lead for the 2019 Startup Weekend event. In collaboration with the designer who created our brand book, I redesigned the logo, designed the website, created the a-frame, banner, poster, digital screen, promo video for advertising, and helped with the photo backdrop for the event.

The Ask

Promote startup weekend across campus to promote student sign ups while following TechStars’ guidelines. 

Deliverables

Website

Redesigned the website using WordPress Elementor Plugin. The website included a countdown to the event, highlighted event details, provided sign up information, and promoted visiting mentors from across the country. 

Logo Re-Design

The Ask:

Use brand approved logo and iterate to create unique Miami University specific logo that incorporates values of the entrepreneurship department.

A-Frame

The Ask:

Design an a-frame to advertise Startup Weekend and encourage student sign ups in a unique way.

Conducted QR code research and implemented on posters and a-frames, resulting in 170+ participant sign ups for the weekend long event.

The Ask:

Design a banner to hang outside the Farmer School of Business to advertise and celebrate Startup Weekend while encouraging student sign ups.

Create promotional video to highlight event and sign up details.

Poster for Sponsors

The Ask:

Create poster to highlight sponsors who donated money, food, drinks, and promotional items to the weekend.

Digital & Paper Ad Design

The Ask:

Create digital screens to promote event across campus and print flyers to hand out to potential attendees.

Photo Backdrop

The Ask:

Collaborate with another designer to design and order print of a backdrop for students, mentors, and guests to take pictures during Startup Weekend event.

Results - a successful weekend!

We started advertising the event when school was back in session in late August. By October we had over 170 students sign up for the event. It was a successful weekend with 15 different student businesses pitching to a panel of judges where they were able to win money to fund their business ideas.
